There is no single grace-period rule that safely applies to every UAE visa. Confirm the permitted stay, expiry date and overstay treatment for the specific visa and issuing authority before relying on any estimate.

What to Do If Your Visa Is About to Expire
- 7+ days before expiry: Apply for a 30-day extension through an authorised typing centre or GDRFA/ICP service centre
- 3–6 days before expiry: Book a border run or flight out , do not wait further
- 1–2 days before expiry: Depart UAE immediately , even a 1-day overstay incurs AED 150 (AED 50 fine + AED 100 admin)
- On expiry day: Depart by midnight , the fine applies from 12:01 AM the following day
How to Apply for a UAE Tourist Visa Extension
- Visit any authorised typing centre (Amer Centre in Dubai, ICP service centre in other emirates)
- Extensions are granted for 30 days at a time, up to a maximum of 2 extensions (60 extra days) in most cases
- Extension fee: approximately AED 600–800 depending on visa type and emirate
- Apply at least 7 days before expiry , same-day extensions are possible but not guaranteed
The simplest way to avoid an overstay fine is to apply for a visa that covers your actual stay length, not the minimum. If your trip might run long, apply for a 60-day visa instead of a 30-day one. If you are visiting family and you are not sure when you will leave, a multiple-entry visa gives you more flexibility. The cost difference between a 30-day and a 60-day tourist visa is smaller than a week of overstay fines.
